Springdale to Host $50M Pickleball Facility: What It Means for Arkansas

Springdale Pickleball Facility indoor court with spectators and players.

A Major Leap for Pickleball in Springdale

A $50 million pickleball facility, dubbed The Big Dill Pickleball Club & Academy, is set to transform Springdale, Arkansas, into a hotspot for this rapidly growing sport. Located on the north side of Emma Avenue, east of 40th Street, the development will encompass over 70,000 square feet, featuring 23 indoor and 30 outdoor pickleball courts. This facility aims not only to host recreational and professional play but also intends to draw an annual influx of approximately 25,000 to 30,000 tourists to the region, according to Reggie Brasfield, the project’s founder.

The Vision Behind the Facility

Reggie Brasfield emphasized the community-oriented mission of the club. “There’s a love for community and understanding the benefits of sports,” he shared. The facility aims to foster social connections while promoting health and wellness. The project is also intended to support local economies by drawing visitors and creating jobs.

A Comprehensive Development Plan

This isn't just a courts-only facility. The Big Dill will include a health and wellness center, housing options, a pro shop, a restaurant, and various commercial spaces. This focus on creating a vibrant, multi-use environment encourages family activities and community engagement. As Brasfield noted, “We want to create that space that families can enjoy, even if they’re not pickleball players.”

Long-Term Community Impact

While initially focused on recreational players, the facility has ambitious plans to develop a training academy for high school and college students, which could potentially set the standard for youth pickleball similar to the U.S. Tennis Association's role in tennis. “We want to create a vibrant community where players of all levels can come together to play, learn, and socialize,” Brasfield stated.

Modern Amenities and Technological Integration

Equipped with live streaming capabilities and advanced player performance tools, the facility promises to deliver a highly engaging experience for players. Video analysis tools for training and skill improvement will set this facility apart from others, enhancing the competitive edge of participants. Brasfield mentioned the importance of technology in elevating the training process, saying it's about taking player development "to the next level."

Support from Local and State Entities

The project has surpassed regulatory hurdles, securing support through state tax incentives aimed at fostering tourism-related ventures. Key partnerships with local businesses are also integral to the development's success. By engaging local entrepreneurs, the facility not only aims to enhance pickleball but also enrich the broader economic landscape of Springdale.

Future Growth and Expectations

Groundbreaking for The Big Dill is set for Spring 2025, with grand opening plans positioned for early 2026. The initiative is a stepping stone toward fostering a culture of health and sporting excellence in Northwest Arkansas, aligning with existing growth trends in the region.

A Call to Engage with the Community

For Arkansas business professionals and community leaders, this development presents multiple opportunities to invest in both the wellness and tourism sectors. The Big Dill represents not just a facility but a movement towards greater community engagement through sports.
