The Amazeum: A Beacon of Educational Innovation
The Scott Family Amazeum in Bentonville is preparing for a significant transformation with a planned $25 million expansion aimed at enhancing its educational offerings and community impact. Having recently achieved 70% of its fundraising goal, the Amazeum is on a mission to reach its full potential as a creative hub for children and families in Arkansas.
What’s on the Horizon: Plans for Expansion
Set to commence this summer and nearing completion by fall 2026, this ambitious project will encompass 34,740 square feet of new indoor and outdoor space. The expansion includes an 11,850-square-foot Early Learner Education Center, designed to inspire young minds in an engaging learning environment. Additionally, a sprawling 17,390-square-foot porch, along with beautiful landscaping, will enhance the outdoor experience for visitors. A 5,500-square-foot nature exhibit is also planned, allowing children to connect with the natural world.
Community Involvement: A Call to Action
The Amazeum has launched the public phase of its EXP&ING Futures capital campaign, with Chief Philanthropy Officer Jennifer Martinez Belt encouraging the local community and beyond to contribute. “We have $8 million more to raise... this is something that anyone can participate in,” she emphasized, highlighting the collaborative spirit of the campaign. Community-based contributions to the project underscore the belief that thriving local institutions can uplift the state as a whole.
Designing New Experiences: The Role of Thought Leaders
Architectural firm Modus Studio and landscape architect Studio Bryan Hanes are key players in this expansion, creating spaces that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing and enriching for children. The Early Learner Center designed by Process Curiosity and the nature center conceptualized by Hands On! Studio demonstrate a commitment to immersive and explorative early childhood education.
The Community and Economic Impact of the Amazeum
Since its inception in July 2015, the Amazeum has engaged over 250,000 visitors annually, showcasing its vital role in promoting STEAM education through interactive exhibits. The museum serves over 20,000 unfield trip school visits each year and hosts more than 70 community events, significantly contributing to the local economy and cultural fabric.
Fostering Future Generations
Amazeum CEO Sam Dean encapsulated the vision for the expansion, stating, “This campaign is about saying ‘Yes, and …’ to a future full of innovation, inclusivity, and inspiration.” Dean invites the community to dream big and take part in shaping a vibrant future for generations to come. The new facilities will serve not only as additional space for exploration but also as a launchpad for creative initiatives in learning, allowing children to immerse themselves in their environment.
