Don’t Click That Link! The Amazon Recall Text Scam Sweeping Phones

An Amazon safety recall scam text is a phishing attempt where scammers send fake texts claiming a product you bought has been recalled and needs a refund. These texts contain a link to steal your personal or financial information. To avoid this, do not click any links, and instead, go directly to your Amazon account to check your order history for any real recalls.

How to spot and handle the scam

  • Do not click the link: The link is the main part of the scam. Clicking it can lead to fake websites that steal your login credentials or financial details.

  • Never provide information: Do not reply to the text or provide any personal information. Amazon.com says legitimate companies won't ask for account information via text.

  • Go directly to Amazon: The safest way to check for recalls is to go to your Amazon account manually by typing the Amazon website into your browser.

  • Check your account: Log in to your account and look for a "Recalls and safety product alerts" section under "Returns & Orders" to see if there are any legitimate recalls.

  • Report the message: You can report the scam to Amazon or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

  • Check the sender: Be wary of messages that are unsolicited. Amazon.com states that legitimate messages regarding orders you didn't place are likely fake.
